An Introduction to Linocut Printing – with Jo and The Owls
WORKSHOP POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
A 6-hour course designed to teach you how to produce a single-colour linocut suitable for printing on cards and making art prints. No experience or artistic qualifications necessary.
During the course Jo will teach you all about the technique of linocut printing, how and why designs work as a single colour print, different carving techniques, and how colour can be used to change the feel of any print.
Jo will guide you through every step of the way, and explain an easy way of getting the outcome we want for each part of the process. (Can’t draw? Not a problem, we’ll trace the image onto the lino!)
You’ll leave knowing all the about the medium, with a handful of prints and cards ready to frame and send.
Everything will be provided, but please feel free to bring any designs or images for inspiration and a pinny to protect your clothing.
10:00 – Tea and homemade biscuits
Jo will show you some of her linocuts, and how she made them.
Description and explanation of all the tools you’ll be using.
Understanding why designs work in a single colour linocut.
- 10:30 – Choosing an image, drawing and tracing image onto lino.
11:00 – Carving!
Different techniques and tools for your image. Practice first, then plenty of time to carve your design, all supervised and assisted by Jo!
13:00 – Lunch in the Farmhouse Dining Room

14:00 – Printing
Let’s all do a test print and see what we’ve got!
More carving to tidy the lino, if required.

16:00 – More tea and cake
Review everyone’s work, photos for the ‘gram, and finish.
